Ingrid's Story

Ingrid Sojit was born in Argentina and migrated to the US as a child. Before settling in Seattle Washington, she has lived in Maryland, Colorado, and Mexico. In 2020 Ingrid returned to painting after a decade spent working exclusively in paper collage. She believes that her experience as a collage artist has influenced her style as a painter and is beginning to reincorporate elements of collage into her current work. A recurring theme in Ingrid’s work is the ongoing intellectual battle between natural science and magical thinking. Other themes include transcendence, regeneration, idealism and justice. Eclectically inspired by the organic shapes observed in nature, the decorative geometry in folk art, and activist poster artists of the 20th century, Ingrid's current work establishes a dialogue between figurative and abstract visual lexicons.
